Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, workplaces must prepare and review at least annually a written occupational health and safety policy and maintain a program to implement that policy. This certificate program is designed to assist participants in fulfilling this legal requirement by providing guidelines and assistance in defining health and safety objectives and developing policies and procedures. Therefore, the program will interest individuals with responsibility for health and safety, (e.g. Supervisors, Safety Co-coordinators, Occupational Health Nurses, Joint Health and Safety Committees members, etc.) who require broader legal and technical knowledge to function effectively in their occupation.
Courses are delivered by experienced health and safety professionals, including instructors with CIH and ROH professional designations.
This program meets the formal education requirements set by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals for professional designation as a Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
For admission to the program, applicants are required to hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent, that includes Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. For those lacking any of these subjects, preparatory courses are available through Continuing Education.
To receive the Certificate, you must successfully complete the following eight courses and apply in writing to the Continuing Education Engineering Technology Office.
You may take these courses on an individual basis. However, for those interested in completing the entire program it is recommended that LAWSOH301 and ENVROH101 be taken first.
