How to find electronic books at the Library @ Mohawk


STEPS FOR FINDING ELECTRONIC BOOKS

  1. Select "Electronic Books" from the "Find Information" tab on the homepage or choose your program area from the "Find by Program" box on the homepage and then choose the "Electronic Book Databases" link.

  2. If you are accessing from home, you will need to log in with your MoCoMotion username and password. See the accessing from home help page for more information.

  3. Choose the appropriate e-book database from the list.

  4. Many e-book collections allow you to enter a search just as you would enter a search in a search engine.

  5. Here is an example of the search box in NetLibrary. Note that you can search by keyword,title, author, subject or within the entire text (full-text).

  6. After you perform a search, your search results will appear. Each result is a link to an online book. You can access individual book pages, chapters or sections and can print one page at a time.

  8. Each e-book database offers different features for example, you can add notes, add bookmarks, email pages, and more. For help, just ask us!

How to find electronic books on the Internet

There are a variety of free online book collections on the Internet. Here is a partial list:

Google Books
Access thousands of public domain books in their entirety and copyrighted books in preview as well as magazines and journals.

Project Gutenburg
Project Gutenburg provides access to thousands of electronic books. These works are in the public domain and the bulk of the titles are fiction classics.

The Online Books Page
This site lists over 20,000 electronic books that are in the public domain, in a variety of formats for download.

Bartleby.com
Bartleby contains access to thousands of electronic books organized by genre (reference, fiction, nonfiction, verse.) These books cannot be downloaded and can only be read online.

University of Virginia Electronic Text Center
This site provides access to tens of thousands of electronic texts, many with historical significance.

Digital Book
This site indexes many electronic book collections. Free registration is required.
