1) When are the libraries open?
Library hours vary at each campus location depending on the time of year. See “Hours” for current operating times, holiday information, etc.
2) Where are the libraries located?
Our libraries are located at the following campuses: Brantford, Fennell, Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) and Stoney Creek . The Fennell Campus is home to 3 libraries: the Cummings Library, the bizHUB and the Collaboratory. See "Locations" for more information, maps and contact details.
3) Who is allowed to use the computers in the libraries?
Anyone can use the computers but during peak periods priority access to library computers is given to Mohawk College students with a valid student card. To use the Internet, a valid MoCoMotion login is required. If you do not have a MoCoMotion login, please contact library staff to discuss the options available.
4) I know the libraries have books, but what other stuff do you have? How do I find it all?
To find books, videos and other items that are physically located in each library, access the "Catalogue". For more information on how to use our catalogue to find these resources check out our help page. For a list of other resources in our libraries and directions for finding them see our Choose Your Tools page.
5) Once I find the stuff I need, can I borrow it? For how long?
To get started, be sure you have a valid student or staff identification card. For more information, have a look at our "Borrow Stuff" help page!
6) If there is a book I need and the library doesn't own it, can you get it for me from another library?
You bet! The library has borrowing/lending agreements with several other Ontario college libraries – check our "Reciprocal Borrowing" page for more details.
7) My instructor has put some resources on “Reserve” for my class. What is “Reserve”? And where do I find this stuff?
Reserve items refer to resources that can be borrowed for a limited amount of time, allowing more students access to them. They are held at the Circulation Desk, and require you to present your student card to borrow them. For more info check out our help page for "Reserves".
8) Do the libraries charge fines for overdue stuff? How much are they?
The libraries apply fines to overdue materials – for the scoop on how much and all the other details check our "Fines" section.
9) My group needs a place to work together. Do the libraries have group study areas?
Each library location has areas that work well for group study and collaboration. Large tables often serve the purpose, but if your group needs to spread out, feel free to book a group space. Find out the details on the "Group Spaces" page.
10) Do the libraries have printers? What about photocopying? How much is it?
Each location has printers and photocopiers. The cost is 15 cents per page. Information about print/photocopy cards can be found here.
11) I am a graduate of Mohawk College. Can I still use the libraries?
Of course! The library welcomes alumni. Please contact the Alumni Association in order to obtain a sticker for your student card that entitles you to alumni privileges within the library.
12) I'm not a student. Can I use the libraries?
You certainly can. The library welcomes members of the community as library users! For more information about what is required and how to sign up, please contact us at the library location nearest you.
13) If I can't make it in to the library, is there a way to access the resources from home?
You bet! Many of the library's resources are available electronically – this includes books, magazine & newspaper articles, and more. Just log in with your MoCoMotion username and password when prompted. Get all the details about how to log in from home from our "How to access from home" page.
14) What if I'm having trouble or I need help finding the resources?
If you have questions while you're attempting to find resources remotely, you can always contact us via live chat, email or phone during our hours of service. For a complete list of all the ways to reach us, see our Ask Us! page.
15) I've heard the libraries lend out laptops – how can I borrow one?
You've heard correctly! The Cummings and IAHS library locations have an ongoing laptop loan program for full-time students. Find out all the details here, on our "Laptops for Loan" information page. You can also print from laptops borrowed from the Library. After you log on, the Library printer will show up in the printer list.
16) I have my own laptop – can I use it in the libraries? And what's the scoop on the wireless network?
The library has several locations for you to plug in your laptop - ethernet cables are available for loan in the bizHUB but please BYOEC (bring your own Ethernet cable) at other library locations. And yes, wireless is an option as well! See the Mohawk Wireless Connection Guide for details about connecting at all campuses except the IAHS Library – see the MacConnect information page for information about connecting at IAHS. Please note that printing from your own laptop to library printers is not possible. Please contact library staff for more information.
17) How can I get involved in the Library and have my say?
The library has an online suggestion box. Please let us know what you think!
18) I am a faculty member - what library services are available to me?
There are a variety of services available to faculty such as booking videos for classes, online reserve forms, research skills instruction for classes, etc. Our services for faculty our outlined on the Centre for Teaching & Learning website.
